history :
Aug 8, 1959 — Breaux Bridge officially named "Crawfish Capital of the World" by the Louisiana Legislature. At the height of August crawfish pond harvest in St. Martin Parish, just 40 miles from Kaplan, the little Cajun town was shipping more crawfish than anywhere on earth — and made our mudbug a symbol of Louisiana pride.
